Another Small El Porto Friday

I know I keep claiming that every weeks video is the worst.  But this week, I think we’ve completed a trilogy of lame.  Hopefully this video won’t be our Return of the Jedi or Godfather III. The waves were even smaller this week – mostly knee high with the rare waist high.  But the waves still just have no strength.  So even if you charge down the face, there’s no momentum to keep you riding.  Most of what you see in this video is sweet slow surfing, lots of crouching to lower center-of-gravity and us sinking at the end of our rides.  It was like trying to ride a bike real slow.  And then there was a lot of gunning for the cameraman while making the serious surfing face and threatening with karate hands.

Despite the tiny waves, we had crew of a half dozen today – Chris, Mike, Peter, Aaron, a freshly shaven Josh and me.  The best part about today was that everyone got in on the cinematography, so I got to try out almost every board we had out there today…because this was today the day to try out some boards! But, as always, we still had fun.

Also, I think I saw one of EPF’s tweeps out there today.  @AaronIkeda, did I see you out there on a blue board?

Its pretty close to our Return of the Jedi, dude. All it needs is the crappy ewok song. But even ewoks know how to have a good time, and thats what we did today.

There’s no BA in Magnum P.I. Chris is definitely TC though. I think you might be the Rick. Sorry, dude.

You guys make small days look like a lot of fun!

Sometimes all it takes to have fun out there is a few friends.

I’m totally a sucker for small waves and big smiles. My board is in the shop after I dinged it good with my head. Your fun small wave videos are keeping my spirits up while I wait for her to get patched up.

Was the ding from riding? I’m a klutz out of the water and all my dings seem to come from transporting my board from the garage to the car. And then I am embarrassed about not having any good ding stories. I’d like to say the dings came from gnarly wipeouts…but it’s just not so.

Yup, it was from riding. It was a pretty small day, around 2ft or so, but a great case of physics gone haywire. Wrong place, wrong time and my board and my head had quite the meetup.

It’s my first ding. I got my board used knowing I’d ding it up, but it was a pristine used board so I’m still fussing that it’s dinged.

Oh well, other than the ding everyone’s okay and I hope to have it patched up real nice soon. 🙂
