EPF Episode 0015: No Waves Without Mike

NEW VIDEO! I’ll disclose right from the get-go that this video is sub par.  After such a dry spell, I’d been waiting for some sort of magical day to get a new video out.  I’m tired of waiting and wanted to get back on track with the videos.  So we give you: Episode 15: No Waves Without Mike.

Mike wasn’t able to join us today, so he told me, in no uncertain terms, that I was to document the day so he could live vicariously through us.  Unfortunately Mike took the waves with him and left nothing for us to ride.  For the most part the morning was flat with the occasional 2-footer.  However, as Murphy’s Law would have it, as soon as I put the camera away and grabbed my board we were treated to a 20 minute session of decent waves.  Ah well.

A big crew turned up today – Jordan, Josh, Sean, Peter, Aaron, CW and I.  Josh got the Best Wave award…and the 2nd Best Wave award. Not only was in position for the best wave that rolled through, but after he paddled back another bomber came right to him again!  Sean received the Dragon Slayer award.  Josh and I were paddling back and saw and monster rear up.  Sean turned and paddled for it.  Backswell pitched the wave up, then the wave bucked and frothed.  But ol’ Sean kept at it, and got to his feet.  Josh and I erupted in cheer!  CW got the Most Photogenic award.  He was clearly the star of this video.

The most exciting part of the morning was the reveal of the P-volver and the Peter’s surprise board.  Peter built a board similar to my yellow Revolver for Aaron.  It came out real sweet.  But Peter blew all our minds when he pulled another new board he’d built out of his car. I can’t even describe it, you’ll just have to see it in the video. (We tried to come up with a name for the board but landed on nothing.  Feel free to submit your suggestions!)  I also got to show off my first attempt at a proper ding fix on the Revolver.  (Hopefully I’ll have a post about that experience soon.)

An upsetting video to watch… I can’t believe I missed out on two new board unveilings. And, Peter-built ones at that. They look great!

Equipment-wise it was a fun day. Surf-wise, you didn’t miss much.

I’m inclined to call Peter’s new board “The Barn Door”

Aaron did make reference to a tatami mat at one point. That might be a good one too.
