Coen Festagain
A new Coen Brothers movie is due out on Nov. 21 – No Country For Old Men.You may remember that I tried to read this book a while back when I found out that the Coen Brothers were adapting it into a film. I hated the book and couldn’t finish it. I don’t know if it was the book or if I was just in the wrong place to read it at the time. Also, the film features Josh Brolin, so that’s not exactly a huge selling point for me. Whenever I hear Josh Brolin, all I remember is how silly he looked in Goonies wearing shorts over sweats and a headband. (And I’ve always been confused about this – what Brolin’s character’s name “Brad” or “Brand” in Goonies?)Hopefully Tommy Lee Jones‘ star power will be enough to out way Brolin.Still, I trust the Brothers Coen and am eager to see the film.Anyway, as is my custom when a new Coen Bros film comes out, I am having my Coen movies fest. This time I am watching them in chronological order. Then after I see the film, I am re-reading my entries from the Coen Fest from two films ago (when “Intolerable Cruelty” came out way back on aught three). Last night I watched Blood Simple. Man do I need an editor!Tonight – “Raising Arizona!”
Dr. J and I have already seen the film and it was AMAZING! Rageously amaxing! Redonkulously amazing. So amazing I forgot how bored I was at The Man Who Wasn’t There. So amazing that I forgave Intolerable Cruelty. It is a return to form as in Blood Simple form. Or Fargo form. Also cut J. Bro some slack. We all wore stupid shit in the’80s and ’90s. At least he was paid to Brand. Yes his name was indeed Brand. Also he has been doing some good work of late. He was pretty memorable as a slimy sexist asshole doc in grindhouse and he was good as slimy cop on the make in American Gangster. And it isn’t easy being Babs’ stepkid.
Don’t ask me what amxing is but i am sure it was that too
awesome. i tried to make a joke about my typo and just made another typo
That just makes your joke better. That’s the power of the internet for you.
And I am sure it’s not easy being Babs’ stepkid, but that excuse doesn’t get him out of the Goonies wardrobe fiasco. “The Babs Effect” only applies to work from “The Mod Squad” on. However, I would accept “Proximity to a Corey” as a valid excuse.
And who names their kid “Brand?” Even fictitiously?
Really, Senora? No Intolerable Cruelty? I really do think Clooney’s eyebrows deserve more screen credit than they get. They are an entity unto themselves. Are they animatronic perhaps?
mmmm, clooney
yeah brand is one of those grade-A examples of only in the movies names
