Happy July everyone! Trying to avoid the holiday crowd, we went for an early week surf sesh at El Porto today. Good crew today too – Josh, Jason and Aaron.  Unfortunately, I stayed out again to ensure that I fully get over my cold, rather than risk relapsing and missing more days.  But I did tag along to take photos.  I’ll tell you what, it’s hard to watch everyone else have fun on the waves and not join in.  But, you, dear readers, benefit as I took hundreds of images of the boys surfing (and some of them are good too).

Quick report before we get to the good stuff.  The water was mid 60s today, but the wind sucked all the warmth right off of you.  Ocean surface was textured due to the wind.  But the waves were knee to shoulder high and certainly workable, as you will see.  Looked like lots of fun.

As always, click on any of the pictures to enlarge them.  But there are two sections here.  First are the general pics.  Second are three sequences that are quite awesome.  Enjoy…

The Wave Warrior

This is my favorite of the sequences. It’s why Jason is totally awesome. This Big Wednesday wave comes along. Everyone sees it, panics and scrambled to paddle over.  But not, Jason.  Oh, no sir.  He said, “Hey bud, let’s party.” Click image to enlarge all pics.

Mr. Graceful

I took a lot of sequences of Josh riding down the line. Most are as good as this one, but I had to pick one to show. But this is why surfing with Josh can be frustrating. Josh will do this a dozen times while I am still struggling just to catch just one wave.  Click image to enlarge all pics.

Wave of the Day

I caught this ride out of the corner of my eye and happened to get the camera on it just in time for the fireworks. This dude had several sweet runs today of this caliber. Well done, dude.  Click image to enlarge all pics.
