Surfing as Physical Therapy for Veterans

Whether or not you are an NPR nerd (I am), there was a great story on Sunday’s Weekend Edition.  Veterans returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan are having surfing incorporated into their rehabilitation regimens.  The piece is only about 5 minutes long, so take a moment to listen.  I love the idea of surfing as therapy, but beyond that, I’m stoked that these vets are so stoked on surfing.

Hundreds of men and women are returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan with physical and emotional scars. Their problems range from traumatic brain injuries to the loss of body parts. Many face long, excruciating months of rehabilitation — and for some, their therapy leads them to the beaches of southern California. From member station KQED, Scott Shafer reports.
