Las Barcas is the end all, be all of Mexican eateries. Luckily for me Las Barcas is conveniently located right around the corner of my house. As a result of its handy proximity, I frequent the establishment on a bi-weekly basis. This has been going on for two years now (oddly the same length of time I have lived in my current residence). Now, I am not the only one who has taken notice of the delights that are Las Barcas and anytime one is inside, one will usually find the place hopping. The line is usually 5 people deep and as such the employees see hundreds of faces every day.
When you give your order you give them your name so they can call you when your delicious food is ready. My usual practice in situations like this is to give any ridiculous name that comes to mind. There is nothing more entertaining than being in Starbucks and hearing the coffeemaster call out “Order for Lance!” and have everyone look at you as you walk up to take your beverage all thinking “there are still people named Lance? I thought that was only in soap operas.” I like to think they are thinking that anyway. Regardless, I was curious how long it would be for me to be called by name and thus be officially a regular. So, at Las Barcas I started using the same name every time – Conrad. (I was obsessed with Conrad Baines for a time, the actor who played Mr. Drummond in “Diff’rent Strokes.”)
